Design Q & A With Alexandra Bracey

January 31, 2017 Daniel Bracey

1. Does your home look like the one that you grew up in?

While I have applied the comfort and warmth from my childhood home to my personal home and style, aesthetically it is quite different from the house I grew up in.  But, as I designer, my house is constantly evolving!

2. What is one of your first design memories?

As soon as I could crawl I was interested in furniture.  My parents called me “quality control” as I was constantly pulling on furniture legs and, much to their dismay, as a toddler I pulled the leg off a family friend’s table!

3. Go-to paint color?

I am currently loving Benjamin Moore’s Woodlawn Blue (HC-147), the perfect soft blue-green.  The Historic Color Collection from Benjamin Moore is my go-to paint book.

4. Who is your favorite designer?

I love the work of Billy Baldwin, a true design pioneer.  I am also inspired by many of the fantastic designers working today – Celerie Kimbel and Jamie Drake are two favorites.

5. Antique or Modern?

Mid-Century Modern.

6. Favorite design related word?

You can “style” a bookcase, you can select a fabric or accessories with “style,” and you can work within your clients “style.”

7. Which film set would you like to live on?

I would love to live in Thomas Crown’s townhouse or on his island from 1999’s “The Thomas Crown Affair”.

8. What should a homeowner never scrimp on?

Don’t scrimp on craftsmanship. Having your floors re-finished professionally, using a carpenter for built-in bookshelves or cabinetry, and having wallpaper installed correctly (with lining paper!) might cost a little extra now but it saves a lot of money and headache in the future.
